Oldfield: The Perfect Community for Living the Quintessential Southern Lifestyle

July 31, 2019

As the members of Oldfield look to the future of their community, we are delighted to ground the newest residential neighborhoods in tradition by building over 40 new houses that harken back to the days of boat rides along the Okatie River and Sunday brunches at home.

Oldfield will need to adjust to and understand the changes in the current culture, particularly in the areas of recreation and housing. There is no question but that golf and tennis are currently not rising in popularity, even though millions still play both sports. Further, the era of the “McMansion,” a six, seven bedroom house on an acre lot, seems largely over, with people who used to aspire to that sort of home now preferring to downsize, yet still have the quality and finishes of a fine home. How these trends will affect us and how we can successfully adjust to meet these new preferences may be key to a thriving Oldfield future.

— Chan Hardwick, Oldfield Club Board President

The 860-acre sports-oriented, environmentally sensitive private gated community set in the heart of Bluffton, SC, had remained untouched for over a century until the early 2000s, when it was turned into the community of homes and cottages that it has become today. In the 2019 April President’s Newsletter, Chan Hardwick, the club board president at Oldfield, wrote, “The era of the ‘McMansion,’ a six, seven bedroom house on an acre lot, seems largely over, with people who used to aspire to that sort of home now preferring to downsize, yet still have the quality and finishes of a fine home. How these trends will affect us and how we can successfully adjust to meet these new preferences may be key to a thriving Oldfield future.” Now, our team of expert architects, contractors, and interior designers at Front Light is collaborating on a series of crafted houses with plenty of traditional Southern charm.

As one of the fastest growing building companies in the region with over 60 years of experience, we understand what our clients want out of their new home. Each house will have a quintessential Lowcountry style, but allow for plenty of self-expression. Homeowners will choose from a collection of pre-designed floor plans, then customize the rest. Imagine preparing Sunday brunch in your updated kitchen, sipping sweet tea with good friends on your screened-in porch, or watching herons glide over the marsh from your master bedroom of your dreams.

Oldfield has perfected the Southern lifestyle, which is all about simplicity. Each low-maintenance model comes move-in ready, complete with Front Light’s trademark standard finishes. Our models combine the small-town aesthetic of the past with all the modern amenities you’ve been searching for, because we want you to enjoy life exactly where you are: home.
